Car rentals at PNS
All the major rental brands operate at Pensacola Regional Airport: Hertz, Enterprise, Avis, Budget, National, Alamo, Sixt, Dollar, Thrifty. The counters and lots are consolidated into a single rental car facility a short shuttle ride from the terminal — common at larger hubs because it keeps curb traffic manageable and gives you one shuttle to learn instead of one per brand.
How pickup works
- After you collect your bag, follow the signs for "Rental Cars."
- Catch the rental car shuttle from the designated curb island. Shuttles run every 5 to 10 minutes around the clock.
- Check in at the counter, kiosk, or — if you have a loyalty membership — go straight to your assigned space.
- Inspect the car for damage and document anything before driving off the lot.
Pricing reality
Airport rental rates are usually higher than off-airport locations because of concession fees that the rental brand passes through. If you're staying for a week or more, it can be worth taking a rideshare to a downtown or suburban rental location and saving 20% or more on the daily rate. For a quick business trip, the convenience of picking up at the airport is usually worth the surcharge.
Always pre-book. Walk-up rates at the counter are dramatically higher than reserved rates, and during peak travel periods specific car classes can sell out completely. A free cancellation reservation, made early, is the best protection against both price spikes and availability issues.
Returning the car
Allow at least 30 minutes for car return at PNS: 10 minutes for the return queue, 5 to 10 minutes for the shuttle back to the terminal, and a buffer for the walk to your gate. If you're returning during a morning or evening peak, double that estimate. Top off the tank within a few miles of the airport — gas stations near the rental facility charge a premium, and refueling fees from the rental brand are higher still.
Insurance and add-ons
Decline counter add-ons unless you've thought about them in advance. Most personal auto insurance policies extend to rental cars, and many credit cards include collision damage waiver coverage when you pay with the card. Check before your trip rather than under pressure at the counter, where the upsell pace is intentionally fast.
